Apartment Challenge Budget Overview-Bedroom Edition

31 July 2009

Currently our bedroom is not a fun or relaxing place to be.  I would like to make it a more serene place to be.  I want to LIKE my bedroom and I want to LIKE to be there.

Infrastructure-

I plan to repaint our bedroom in a soft light green to give it a calming effect.  I also hope this will brighten the room, making it appear larger.  I believe that I will have enough paint left over from the Living Room and Hallway, to paint the doors, trim, and ceiling in this room .

Light Green Paint-1 Gallon $21
Primer-1 Gallon $16

Subtotal-$37

Textiles and Accents-

I plan to brighten the room further, by replacing the worn bedding with duvet inside  a crisp white cotton cover.  Our bedroom has always lacked curtains.  I intend to rectify this, with new cotton sheers and heavy white cotton panels.  I will hang a series of the same cotton sheers along the wall behind the bed to soften the overall look, and disguise the ugly AC unit.  Paint will give my dresser, currently green, and my vanity an updated fresher look.  Under the Bed Baskets will provide additional, NEEDED, storage.

Bedding-$80
Curtains-$20
Sheers for Window-$20
Sheers for Wall-$60
Hardware for Curtains-$31
Paint for Furniture-Quart- $10
Under the Bed Baskets ($40 dollars each)-$160

Subtotal $381

Estimated Grand Total- $418

Apartment Challenge Budget Overview-Dining Room/Hallway Edition

30 July 2009

Our hallway serves multiple purposes.  It is where we eat dinner, where we store our bikes, and the thoroughfare to get to the kitchen, and rest of the apartment.  It is the second room on the roster of renewal.

Infrastructure-

This area lacks direct natural light.  Making it very dark and gloomy, and rather dingy.  We intend to brighten it up with a much lighter wall color.  The trim will also be repainted for a cleaner updated look.  Likewise the ceiling, needs to be refreshed, so that we have contiguous color from the living room.  We also intend to replace the single overhead light, with multi-directional brushed nickel track lighting.

Light Blue Grey Paint ($21 per gallon)-$42
Primer ($16 per gallon)-$32
Ceiling Paint-$17
Trim Paint-$25
Track Lighting- $50

Subtotal-$166

Textiles and Accessories-

We have a lovely mid century maple drop leaf table and chairs that we inherited from Grandpa John.  Sandy is kindly giving me an antique Zenith HiFi that belonged to her Grandparents.  Its wood tone is very similar to the table and chairs, so it will be a lovely addition. I am adding extra color, with a table runner and place mats.  Further visual interest will come from some new art.  I am also adding some shelves, which will be finished to mimic the table and HiFi, to store my record collection, and other related brickabrack.

Table Runner-$8
Place Mats-$6
Art-$50
Shelves- $60
Stain-$10
Poly-$10

Subtotal- $144

Grand Total Estimate-$310
