Kirtle Madness

23 July 2008

Stayed home with Pete, who was under the weather and proceeded to sew while he was asleep.
The kirtle is 85% finished. It lacks a bound hem, a guard, and eyelets. I decided letting the hem hang was a good idea since its wool, and wool tends to be mildly stretchy (only mildly.)
I’ve also cut and pressed the guards for the kirtle. AND drafted the pattern for my fitted gown. I was highly productive. I hope to have the kirtle entirely finished tonight.

Skirting the Issue

18 July 2008

I finished sewing the lining of the skirt together. Then I basted on a double layer of cotton batting to pad the pleats. When I went to pin the shell and lining together, I discovered the the gold wool is 2 inches wider than the linen I’m using to line the garment. Not a huge big deal, but a pain in the butt nevertheless especially considering how much grief this simple kirtle skirt has caused me already.
