Concentrating on the Bottoms

7 July 2010

I am waiting for some shoulder pads to arrive in the mail, so I can finish my blouses.  I’ve decided not to fear shoulder pads….as long as they don’t look like this.

While I wait, I’ve decided to start working on some bottoms, to go with my new tops.

I recently ordered 3 suitable bottom weight fabrics (3 yards each) with the intent of trying to make 6 skirts total.  We will see how this endeavor pans out.

For my first project I have chosen this Simplicity pattern from 1952.  It is touted as an “Easy 1 Yard Pattern.  We shall see.  I intend to resize it and mock it up in a light weight canvas tonight.  I’ll let you know how it goes!

July is Make and Mend Month

1 July 2010

The brilliant left handed, vegan cartoonist (seriously, it’s in her profile) over at New Vintage Lady has declared July to be “Make and Mend” Month.

Participants are encouraged to:

*Use fabric you already have for any new project.
*Alter a current pattern for a new garment.
*Repair/Mend 3 things from your ‘fix’ pile.
*Repurpose at least one piece of fabric.
*Make something for someone else.
Since this is in line with my “self imposed fabric fast” way of thinking.  I will gladly join in the campaign!
